This is a story about a blue elephant who is waiting for his mom to pick him up after school. He uses his imagination to have fun with all the elements around him, so the time flies. He wins a fishing competition with a cat. He brings eggs to Mr. Cake. He even has a wonderful teatime with an unusual ant.
I had a couple images in my head at first. One image was about a giant baby elephant who was resting and put his head on a blanket which in fact was a grassy field. Another image was the baby elephant who was pulling a gigantic egg carton through a polluted city. After I painted these two images, more images about this blue baby elephant came. I did a series of this elephant with acrylic painting. Then one day while I was riding my scooter, the sentence popped up in my head: “When I was waiting for my mom”. I really like this sentence. I went through all the paintings I had done with the baby elephant back in my studio and discovered that the illustrations could be connected all together with this sentence. And at that moment the book was born.
